Coming Upwards Toward the Light

(in honor of the apparently, partially visible periods I use to alter spacing)

The suggestions of gravity
......Are sometimes taken

and...

Other times, they are broken
....flagrantly, as laws that stand
......in the way of fun are often

broken...

And we are children in this way,
....seeking anodyne to our ills,
......seeking some will to undo

the parts unflattering in even
dim light...

It's interesting what indents will do, isn't it! I'm guessing that with a little research (on web colors) you could find a color that's a closer match to your background. There are some standards that should come closer than white. Fun to see you make this foray!

For example (from http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_colornames.asp ):
beige #F5F5DC
cornsilk #FFF8DC
lemonchiffon #FFFACD
lightyellow #FFFFE0

...have fun experimenting!

If you want my text formatter (the one I use for code) I'd be happy to share it with you. It maintains the spacing in your original text and puts the formatted text in your clipboard...

Regardless of that... I liked the pace, and the twists here... taken/broken... bending reality to our need.

MB,

Can you see the white "x" placeholders on your screen? I've struggled on multiple screens to see them, but I can't get more than a hint of a shadow. Maybe these LCD screens I use wash out faint colors, though, so I can't say. I felt satisfied, but now I wonder if it looks bad on some screens...

Bill,

Thanks for the offer. It's faintly possible that I'm too lazy to go that far, however. I'll let you know. BTW, did you see the white x placeholders? Maybe I'm part blind. (Maybe, shoot, I know I am!)

In any case, thanks for coming by!

Yes, I can see the white x's. Your background appears as a creamy-beige color, with the white x's on top. I suppose it makes some sense that it could show up differently on different computers, or perhaps even in different browsers. But yeah, that's why I was suggesting trying some of the slightly beigey colors instead.

...It's not that it looks bad, but not optimal. A little distracting. But then, you know, I do design work so I get picky about such things...

MB,

Well, here's my second attempt at it...or third, I'm not certain. I can't see the periods any more than I could see the x's, however, you might if you have eyes, a browser, or a display that picks up such things. I found that I had a good, wide degree of possibilities in Word, and I think I found a pretty good color match for the screen. Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong.

Hey, good job! I can no longer see the dots. And I checked in a few browsers and on two different computers just to be sure! Nicely done. It looks really good.

(... but I can see your endif tag at the end for some reason... ;-)

MB,

Hmmm. What browser are you using (if I may ask)?

I thought that color looked like a pretty close match, though, so we're partially on the way. That, and it will come directly over from Word without any strange effects now, for some reason...

Thanks for suffering through my questions and helping me out.

MB,

Oh, I see it on Internet Explorer, too. Confusticate and be bothered, these Bloggers!

No problem. I'm using Internet Explorer right now, and can see that tag. Blogger is picky about which tags it does/doesn't accept. I suspect it doesn't recognize the commenting-out tag! It's frustrating, I agree, that it's so limited and limiting. (Do you really need that tag?)

Patrick M. Tracy said...

MB,

I was using Firefox when I was working on the darned thing, and it didn't even show it, nor does in show the tag in the finished product. Eh...

Patrick M. Tracy said...

..."it", rather than "in". Now, I can't type properly, it seems!

MB said...

Oh, don't we love browsers! (hmmm.)

I'm still seeing it here. Of course, this is an old version of IE, so it may be you'll just want to ignore me! I'll check a little later today in a couple browsers and see if anything shows up.

MB said...

Hi, I've looked at it now in Safari, Firefox, and two versions of IE. The tag seems to show up only in the oldest version of IE, so I think you can blithely ignore my complaint! ;-)

Firehawk...

Here's a simple 'trick':

1. type the text as you want to see it in say notepad, or any text editor.
2. Cut and past it into the blogger creat post window (in HTML mode)
3. place a "<"pre">" in front and a "<"/pre">" at the end (without the quotation marks and your spacing and indents should survie just fine.

MB,

Thanks for your patience and for coming back multiple times to give me feedback on the look of my post.

I eventually opened the page in IE, and I could see the tag. Probably some small bungle I made. I was able to use IE to delete it, though, so that's probably why you didn't see it later.

Bill,

Thanks for the tip. I think that I'll be able to get it to do what I want it to now. Thanks again for coming back and offering your vast knowledge. Cheers!

I've also been reminded that a " " tag will create a non-breaking space (a hard space, so to speak) to hold the place in lieu of a period or whatever else.

MB said...

Oho!... um, let's see if I can do this. That was "&"n"b"s"p";" ... take out all quotation marks.
